The passing of music legend David Bowie has inspired not one drink but a whole cocktail menu at the Squeaky Bean. Since 2009, the restaurant has marked the passing of iconic cultural figures with "Shrine cocktails" — limited time special drinks created in their honor, placed in a shrine with the photo of the dearly departed.
Bowie's prolific career and overwhelming reach inspired bartender Jack Bethel to create seven cocktails dedicated to the rock star, all named after his major hits. Here's the line-up:
Ziggy Stardust: Mezcal, Aperol, Cocchi Americano, dehydrated Campari "Stardust"
Heroes: Woody Creek vodka, blood orange, honey, pear eau de vie, Moscato
Young Americans: Squeaky Bean Barrel Elmer T Lee bourbon, Amontillado sherry, orange olio sacchrum, bitters
Life on Mars?: Reposado tequila, Nardini Amaro, orgeat, lime
Space Oddity: Pisco, Meyer lemon, mandorla, egg white
Let's Dance: Lillet Blanc, lemon oil, house apple liquor
Golden Years: Reagan orange bitters, Ron Zacapa rum, Pommadine, lemon
On Tuesday, January 19 from 4 p.m. to close, the Squeaky Bean will host an evening of Bowie tribute by launching the David Bowie cocktail list and offering it on special, and playing David Bowie's music to celebrate the inspirational person he was. With the idea that "We are all a Bowie, and he is all of us," the restaurant invites people to dress up and embrace their inner Bowie. The special cocktail list will be available from next Tuesday until at least the end of January.
Other David Bowie tributes in Denver include custom cakes created by the funky team a Voodoo Doughnuts (thanks Meg Ruggieri for the photo!) and a dance party coming to Lipgloss (1037 Broadway) on Friday, January 15 starting at 9 p.m.
