Rockbar will close on Saturday night ending a hard few months of battling the city on a liquor license renewal issue that it ultimately lost. Earlier this month, the City of Denver denied Rockbar's liquor license renewal citing serious concerns for the health, safety and welfare of the neighborhood.
Jesse Morreale, Rockbar's owner, who had a fair share of other troubles with the city recently surrounding his South Broadway joints El Diablo and Sketch, questions Tom Downey, Director of the Denver Department of Excise and Licenses and his motivation. Morreale states that the denial occurred "under questionable circumstances, timing and reasoning."
Regardless of who is right and who is wrong, the bottom line is this: Denver has Friday and Saturday to celebrate the hipster East Colfax hangout with a two-day goodbye extravaganza.
