Ground-breaking construction begins today on the 3000 square-foot former roller rink space that will house Old Major, brainchild restaurant of chef Justin Brunson. The plan is to create a space that retains the character of the current building, allowing for exposed brick walls and the barrel ceiling, but has a contemporary vibe with the addition of garage doors, an open kitchen, and an exhibitionist case holding the in-house cured meats.

The food at Old Major will be bistro-style, focused on farm-to-table ingredients with pig and seafood at the forefront. A small but well-thought menu created by Brunson will complement a highly curated wine program led by Jonathan Greschler who will serve as the general manager at Old Major. A cocktail program and Infinite Monkey Theorem wines on tap will also be featured.

Construction is scheduled in the space for the next nine weeks and the anticipated opening is February 1, 2013. Old Major plans to be open seven nights a week for dinner.
