The Lancer Lounge, the classic dive bar set on 7th Avenue between Frank Bonanno's restaurants Mizuna and Bones, will be closing its doors for good tomorrow at 2 p.m. The announcement came on the Lancer Lounge twitter account:
"HEADS UP AND SPREAD THE WORD, THE LANCER LOUNGE WILL BE CLOSING TUESDAY, SO LET'S ALL GET TOGETHER AND GO DOWN THIS MONDAY AND REMEMBER THE GOOD TIMES WE ALL HAD AND WISH THE OWNER WELL. WHAT SAY YEA, AND BECAUSE OF THIS WE MAY HAVE TO BE OUT BY MIDNIGHT."
The bar, known for its stiff drinks and relaxed atmosphere, has been plagued with code violations and complaints from neighbors for the last several years. Tonight is the last hooray for this neighborhood watering hole.
The question is, considering that he operates three restaurants on that same block, will Frank Bonanno try to expand his operations even more into this space?
