Take a drive on South Broadway and you will notice a new sign perked up in the last couple of weeks: Li'l Devils, Ultra Lounge and Video Bar, said to be coming soon to 255 S. Broadway. That space was occupied for a decade by the Barker Lounge, a dog-friendly, gay, divey bar that attracted neighborhood crowds and beyond. The Barker Lounge moved to 475 Santa Fe Drive this summer after negotiations to renew the lease failed.
Li'l Devils will be operated by Tony Fleith, owner of Chameleon Theme Productions, Inc, who has worked for the Barker Lounge for over six years. Fleith promises a bar that will cater to the gay and straight community, featuring video music shown on six TVs ranging from top 40 to country. While a date for a liquor license hearing has yet to be posted, Li'l' Devils will apply for a tavern liquor license and cabaret license to allow itself to occasionally provide light acoustic entertainment for holidays and special promotions.
While Fleith is planning remodeling inside give the space a fresh upscale masculine appearance, the exterior of the building will also get a facelift. Paint for the outside walls will be selected to blend in with the Baker Neighborhood, gutters and fences will be repaired, and landscape will be worked on prior to opening. Stay tuned for more.
