The American Distilling Institute has chosen Denver as the home for its 10th Anniversary Spirits Conference & Vendor Expo. Between Monday, April 1 and Thursday, April 4 2013, at the Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel, attendees from all over the country will participate in seminars, lectures, and tastings that promote the craft of distilling. Leah Hutchinson, the conference and advertising director for the American Distilling Institute, was in Denver this week. When asked why the Institute chose Denver, Hutchinson credited Colorado's welcoming and booming distilling community.

The American Distilling Institute was founded in 2003. At that time, there were 69 craft distillers holding TTB-issued Distilled Spirits Plant licenses, a number that has increased today to 240. The first conference the Institute hosted had 47 attendees. The growth of the organization paralleled the growth of the distilling industry as a whole. In April, the 10th Anniversary Conference in Denver is projected to host over 600 people and the word is that the opening speaker will be Jess Graber of Stranahan's Whiskey.
