To no surprise, Punch Bowl Social will not open this month. Eater reported in January that Punch Bowl Social was 80 percent complete and gearing up for a March opening, but we checked in with owner Robert Thompson and he's encountered some setbacks. Thompson tells us that between an asbestos problem and a complicated land purchase, PBS will now open in June.
With a summer opening and other restaurants in the works, Thompson definitely has a full plate. Thompson's high-end bowling alley-meets-diner is already making its way to Portland, with other potential markets in Chicago, Los Angeles and Seattle. He's also in the process of scouting a space to reopen Argyll, a gastropub that shuttered back in July 2011. While he was eyeing the Baker neighborhood, he tells us that he's now looking in Cap Hill, downtown and in Highlands.
