Welcome to Shit People Steal, in which we ask restaurateurs what items in their restaurant have been (or are frequently) stolen.
Frank Bonanno of Bonanno Concepts tells Eater that wallpaper vandals went to new extremes at Osteria Marco over the weekend. Apparently, it's not uncommon for guests in the women's room to take pens and draw penises on the charming frogs — in fact, Bonanno tells us that this happens on a weekly basis most of the time. On Friday, though, management discovered a different act of vandalism the restroom — one of the frogs had been cut out and stolen from the wall. Jacqueline Bonanno says it's definitely a first:
Brubschwig and Fils makes that paper and it's wildly expensive. Usually women just draw penises on the frogs -- which baffles me. We were having to repaper sections on a monthly basis, then last summer we just repapered the whole thing and had a special coating put on it so we could wipe drawings off. Actually stealing a frog off the wall is a new one, though. What woman carries a knife to the bathroom and thinks to use it on a wallpaper frog?!?
