Gumbo's Louisiana Style Cafe quietly reopened last week in the former Roam space, a building that has seen several venues in a few short years. Owner Gary Hvizda, who owned and founded Gumbo's downtown before it went dark last October, bought the restaurant space from Daniel Kuhlman after a series of business discussions that started in November. In March, Kuhlman approached Hvizda about buying the space, and the deal became final after Kuhlman literally shoved the Roam concept and crew out of the door.
Now, with a clean slate and a new paint job, Hvizda will run the Gumbo's with chef Todd Laugen, previously of Gumbo's downtown and Strings. Hvizda tells Eater that he's hopeful about the new venue, and excited to run a more intimate venue, as the new Gumbo's space is roughly 6,000-square-feet smaller than the downtown location. Gumbo's new menu is very similar to the original, with the addition of more small plates, a few salads and handmade pasta. Hours: Tuesday-Sunday, 5-10 p.m., and untill 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
