For most chefs, the drive to the Food & Wine Classic in Aspen is idyllic one, but for chef Samir Mohammad of The Village Cork, today's drive wasn't all that awesome — that's because Mohammad got shitcanned, on his way to represent the restaurant with the Denver FIVE. “It didn’t entirely come as a surprise, but I’m sad to see a successful run at the Cork come to a close," Mohammad said in his official statement. He'll still cook at the festival, but he's now a free agent, and he's looking for a permanent kitchen home.
Mohammad is now one of three free agents in the Denver FIVE. Pastry chef Jessica Scott, also a FIVE member, left her post in May to pursue other career options. She's currently working with Bistro Boys Catering and fellow FIVE member Hosea Rosenberg at Blackbelly Catering. Around the World in 80 Plates contestant Jenna Johansen is also a free agent, as she split with Dish restaurant in Edwards to further her culinary career in Denver. And in other FIVE news, mixologist James Lee has bowed out of the group, as his duties at The Bitter Bar had to take priority during a busy season. Never a dull moment, folks.
