The Owner of Masterpiece Cakeshop Says He'll Close Before Selling Wedding Cake to Gay Couples

New, 8 comments

Jack Phillips, the owner of Masterpiece Cakeshop in Lakewood, has opened his mouth about the decision to deny wedding cakes to gay couples, as he did last Thursday when couple Dave Mullin and Charlie Craig visited the shop for wedding cake planning. Phillips told CBS Denver channel KCNC-TV that business has doubled since he denied Mullin and Craig a cake, an incident that has gained national attention: "If gays come in and want to order birthday cakes or any cakes for any occasion, graduations, or whatever, I have no prejudice against that whatsoever. It's just the wedding cake, not the people, not their lifestyle." Sound drastic? He'll close shop before he parts with his beliefs: "If it came to that point, we would close down the bakery before we would compromise our beliefs so that may be what it comes to... we'll see."

EventWire: A protest titled "Let the GAYS Eat CAKE! Peaceful! Protest!" will take place this Saturday, August 4th in front of Masterpiece Cakeshop from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. [Facebook]
