oakdinner.jpgHow much would you pay to eat in a field? $210? That's the going rate for some of chef Jim Denevan's traveling Outstanding in the Field dinners, which recently made a stop in Lafayette. Denevan on the price: "Even now, there's an atmosphere that farmers are charity cases. With the elevated wine and food, some might say, 'Oh, these people are out of touch,' but it's kind of a provocation. After 'What the heck is this?' then comes 'Maybe it's something to think about.' A least it gets the conversation going about whether it is valuable to have small farms." [DP]
