Fixed-priced menus and hard-to-get reservations aside, there are other things that can help your Valentine's Day preparations, whether you need a sweet treat for home, a ride to your dinner, a place to spend it if you're single, or an idea for the mountains. So, here it is: the last-minute unusual guide to V Day.
Love cake? Head on over to Glaze at 1160 Madison Street and get your red velvet Japanese-inspired Baumkuchen cake. Call 720.387.7890 to reserve one just to be safe. Glaze will also be offering free mimosas and hot chocolate with Baileys all day tomorrow.
Still need a present? The Frasca Caffe, located at 1720 Pearl Street in Boulder, has an accumulated collection of cookbooks from chefs who participated in Frasca's guest chef events. Some of the books are autographed and include Chris Cosentino's Beginnings: My Way To Start a Meal, Gabrielle Hamilton's Blood, Bones & Butter, and the SPQR Cookbook from the San Francisco restaurant bearing the same name.
Need a ride? Call UBER for a ride to one of these participating restaurants - Cholon, Central Bistro and Bar, Trillium, 1515, and the 9th Door and get a free glass of bubbly when you show your UBER receipt. UBER will also offer flowers on demand tomorrow: users can activate the Uber app on a smartphone and, within minutes, a bouquet of roses can be delivered to loved ones in downtown Denver. This will be available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on February 14 while supplies last.
Looking for chocolate fondue? Corner House has you covered. The Jefferson Park eatery, located at 2240 Clay Street and ran by chef Matt Selby, will serve chocolate fondue with strawberries, graham crackers and toasted marshmallows. There will be other specials offered that night including shrimp cocktail with fireball whiskey cocktail sauce and tarragon aioli and a special pink bubbly cocktail too.
Single in Denver? Check out Central Bistro and Bar's Lonely Hearts Night special: $1 for first drink and "the daily" special menu pricing. The LoHi restaurant located at 1691 Central Street will also entertain with fun speed dating games, a specially priced menu, and screenings of "Full House."
Single in Longmont? Harold's, located at 1940 Ken Pratt Blvd, has reserved The Bayonet Room, just for solo men and women who can spend their single V Day in this sexy craft cocktail lounge.
Cynical about Valentine's Day? The Corner Office teamed up with Imbibe Denver to cater to the less romantic crowd. Starting at 6 p.m., the night will kick off with cocktails (full disclosure: there is a Luv-tini) and appetizers at the Corner Office, 1401 Curtis Street. At 9 p.m. the party moves to the Jones Theater (pretty much across the street) for a funny improv show called Cult Following. Attendees get two included beers and popcorn during the show. Tickets are $25 per person, a price that covers both the Corner Office part and the show part.
In the hills? Seek out the Veuve Clicquot Oasis lounge which is on Ajax Mountain through the end of ski season. The Oasis is located in a different locale every weekend on the mountain, open Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The Remède Spa at The St. Regis Aspen Resort is featuring Veuve-enhanced treatments over select dates for the remainder of ski season, beginning this weekend. Among the bubbly treatments there is the Veuve Clicquot Misting Facial, the Head-to-Toe Veuve Clicquot Treatment, and the Rosé and Roses Couples Massage and Private Bath.
