The Justice League of Street Food (JLSF), a group of food trucks that first banded together nearly four years ago to throw street food bashes, is returning this year promising at least three parties to remember. The first one will take place on April 27 from 2 to 8 p.m. on the North-East corner of Colfax Avenue and Stuart Streets.
Some of Denver's oldest and most beloved food trucks belong to this group, including Biker Jim, Pinche Tacos, the Cupcake Truck, the Biscuit Bus, and Fat Sully's. Quiero Arepas, a Venezuelan-inspired truck featuring a variety of dishes based on the traditional arepa, joined the group last year on a permanent basis and will return this year. The one truck not returning to these parties or Denver's streets is Stick It To Me, which has been put on permanent hold by its owners. One party-only guest trucks for the April 27 event include The Pie Truck, Capt'n Crabby, and Yatai Sushi.
This first event is focused around the launch of a major public transportation line. The April 27 JLSF party is a collaboration with the opening of the RTD West Lightrail Line and the West Colfax Business Improvement District. Light rail will be free all weekend and there will be a free shuttle service from the 13th and Perry Lightail Station to the JLSF event three blocks away. Over the last few years, the Justice League of Food Trucks accustomed its loyal fans to ever-changing locations and varying themes which, in the past, ranged from the 80's rap to crazy hats.
Aside from a wide-variety of food, the party will feature music from DJ Magic Cyclops and Avery beer and Republic Tequila margaritas will be flowing. What else? Avery will present a food and beer pairing mini-lesson at the top of each hour between 3 and 7 p.m., featuring special beers and offerings from some of the trucks.
Biking is encouraged: there will be a bicycle valet service at JLSF and a B-Cycle station at the light-rail stop.
Only two other Justice League of Street Food events are scheduled for 2013 so get April 27 on your calendar and check the Justice League of Street Food Facebook page for updates.
