Crimson Canary Closed Its Doors on Saturday

Crimson Canary, the South Broadway restaurant that opened in October 2011, has closed its doors after dinner service on Saturday. Owners Andre and Aaron Lobato and Joey Newman, who also own Interstate Kitchen, opened Crimson Canary in the former Mona's space with the goal of bringing casual Italian-American fare to the Baker neighborhood. The mobster-inspired restaurant received some acclaim being named among the best new restaurants of 2011 by Westword and receiving a good review from the same publication.

The official reason behind the shutter is a desire by the ownership to focus on Interstate Kitchen. On Saturday, on its Facebook page, the restaurant posted the following message: "Thank you to all those who have supported us over the past year plus! Unfortunately tonight will be our last evening of service so come get your Dirty Bird fix ASAP. We look forward to seeing you tonight!"
