Former Future Brewing Company finally found a home at 1290 South Broadway. The nano-brewery and tap room has been hunting for a space since late last year and the search was not easy. The initial plan was to find a location in Baker, Denver's oldest neighborhood, where owners James and Sarah Howat live. The duo wanted to build a business in their own community, one that has an irresistible historic yet energetic vibe. But Baker proved to be difficult, so the search was expanded to the Santa Fe Art District, RiNo, the Highlands, and beyond.
Today, a lease was signed, close to the Baker neighborhood in a 2650 square foot space, former home to a MMJ dispensary, that shares a sidewalk with Adelita's Cocina y Cantina and the temporarily closed Buffalo Doughboy Bakery. This location is on Antique Road, nearby Wash Park, Platt Park, Old South Pearl Street and just a block away from the original Pasquini's and GB Fish & Chips.
The interior features high ceilings with exposed beams, brick walls, lots of space for brewing, serving, and mingling. FinArt, a company that most recently completed the space at Old Major and the remodel at Spuntino, will design the brewery.
"We are excited to have already started work with our architect and designers on making our taproom something truly special," the Howats comment in a press release sent out today. "The design will highlight the process from grain to glass, exposing every step. This building also will give us the opportunity to have significant barrel storage, as well as space for a coolship for traditional wild and sour ales," they add.
When will it open? As soon as the paperwork, permits, and licenses are done and, of course, as soon as the space is ready. Volunteers are helping move equipment into the new home this evening, but a bunch of demolition followed by construction needs to be completed before beer starts being poured. The projected opening is in October.
