Last weekend, Illegal Pete's, the small and quirky Colorado "Mission Style" Mexican chain, opened its sixth Colorado location at 270 South Broadway. The building that houses the casual eatery transformed from an old car lot into a multifaceted restaurant, bar, patio hangout, and play area that includes games like bocce ball. The makeover is still pending with landscaping and renovations that will extend to beautifying the entire block.

The 2,600 square foot building was designed by Denver architect Melissa Friday of Xan Creative. Friday is known for her recent design of the restaurant and ping-pong hall, Ace, as well as the popular breakfast destination, Snooze.

With a full bar, Illegal Pete's will serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with the kitchen open for late night crowds until 2:30 a.m. There will be live music weekly inside the restaurant, and a stage will be brought into the space during this year's Underground Music Showcase July 18-21.

A grand opening party with bands and entertainment is slotted for July 13. Details are forthcoming, but the plan is to feature live music, special drinks, games and more.
