The Squeaky Bean and Old Major Among the 50 Best New Restaurant Nominees by Bon Appetit

New, 1 comment

Today, the Squeaky Bean and Old Major were named among the 50 nominees for the Best New Restaurants in America 2013 by Bon Appetit Magazine. The magazine's restaurant and drinks editor, Andrew Knowlton, compiled the list of nominees over a 120-day, 26,333-mile, 22-state tour of the country. The goal of the list is to provide a snapshot of where the food scene is now and where it's headed.

The Squeaky Bean opened its doors in its current incarnation in LoDo in June of last year. The reviews for the restaurant helmed by chef Max MacKissock have been outstanding, including a perfect four-star from the Denver Post and being named Restaurant of the Year by Eater Denver. Also, chef MacKissock was a semi-finalist for a James Beard Award in the Best Chef Southwest category.

Old Major launched in February of this year and made quick fans out of Denver's diners. The Denver Post awarded the LoHi restaurant three and a half stars and Westword's Gretchen Kurtz proclaimed that people have gone hog-crazy for chef Justin Brunson's food.

Last year, Colorado was represented with three restaurants on Bon Appetit's Top 50 ListPinche Taqueria, Linger, and Pizzeria Locale. None of the three snagged a spot on the coveted Top 10. This year's Hot 10 will be announced on Wednesday, August 14. Fingers crossed for the home contenders!
