ChefJennifer Jasinski of Rioja is one of three remaining chefs on Bravo's Top Chef Masters. Last night on episode nine, restauranteur powerhouse David Burke— who owns David Burke Townhouse, David Burke at Bloomingdales, Fishtail by David Burke, Burke in the Box, David Burke Prime, David Burke's Primehouse, David Burke Las Vegas, and Fromagerie— packed his knives and went home.
Once again, Chef Jasinski won the Quickfire round with a Chroni Beef Burger with caramelized bacon, shiitake ponzu slaw and Sriracha ketchup. That's a real feat when your judge is notorious for hating ketchup. Sang Yoon, the LA chef who was kicked off the competition last week, came back as the celebrity judge this week.
In the Elimination Challenge, chefs paired up with exceptional teachers from the Los Angeles Unified School District who were being honored. Chef Jasinski got Stacey Joy, a 5th grade teacher in the LAUSD, and made rack of lamb with creamy grains, pear, fennel and red wine reduction. Despite the judges' criticism for that her dish was undercooked, it still trumped the eliminated dish by Chef David Burke.
Burke chose to make soufflés for 60 people, to which his fellow contestant Douglas Keane said, "David must have titanium balls to make soufflés for 60."
Tune in on Bravo next Wednesday at 8 p.m. for the finale, when the three remaining chefs must cook four dishes: something old, a dish that inspired the start of their careers; something new, a dish that shows where they are today; something borrowed, a dish inspired by a mentor; and something sous, the dessert created by their sous chefs during the Battle of the Sous Chefs.
Jasinski has now won $35,000 for Work Options for Women during the first 9 episodes of Top Chef Masters. The finale has $100,000 on the line.
