Michael Bortz, the master baker behind City Bakery, will open a full scale sandwich shop and bakery-cafe to a space on Lincoln at 7th Avenue. City Bakery Café is still months out, says Bortz, but a lease was signed last week and the construction will start soon with a target opening in April.

"I love sandwiches and soups and bread," Bortz confided. "I see the café as the next step to growing the City Bakery brand and expanding into an area that is close to my heart," he added.

The concept is modeled after what Bortz did years ago at Paradise Bakery- soups, salads, and pastries. This new venture will also provide him with the ability to retail the products crafted at the bakery located in North Denver. "We are hoping to capture a market where people need to eat real quick and want more quality in their food," Bortz explained.

When City Bakery Café opens, it will serve breakfast and lunch six days a week from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.
