After opening at the beginning of the year, Former Future Brewing Company is now set to expand its offerings, under the guidance of owners Sarah and James Howat. The first step is the purchase of a 15-barrel fermentor from Renegade Brewing, which will be installed on December 4. The equipment upgrade—currently Former Future's fermentors are three to four barrels—will mean the ability to produce more beer and styles, plus wholesaling to restaurants and bars around town.
The increased capacity caps off a successful first year in operation, which also saw Former Future earning a coveted medal at the Great American Beer Fest in October. The brewery took home the bronze in the Experimental Beer - Wild Ale category for its Black Project #1. And this weekend, Former Future also picked up a trophy for Beast in Show at the Denver Bacon and Beer Festival, where it served salted caramel porter.
The brewery also plans to introduce a pilot series in the near future for experimentation, as well as a Gold Club membership launching in January. It will include $1 off pints, a special drinking goblet, and a key to a secret tap.
