Motomaki, a new, fast-casual sushi concept from the owners of Hapa Sushi opened at 1600 28th Street a little over a month ago. The space which is 2,500 square-feet was previously occupied by the San Francisco Soup Co.
Open seven days a week, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., there are 98 seats, with an outside patio for fine weather dining. Fitting to the dining in the area, you order and pay at the register, then sit and wait before your number is called.
The food includes the likes of poke, sushi rolls, make your own maki, salads, and Moto rolls, which might be better dubbed as "Japanese burritos." The food is affordable, with dishes falling under $12. On the beverage side of things, Motomaki offers beer, wine, and sake.
Hapa Sushi, has three restaurants in Denver, and one location in downtown Boulder. Although owner Mark Van Grack says he doesn't plan to immediately begin franchising this concept, he is open to the idea if he find the success he's looking for.
