Today, the James Beard Foundation live-streamed its announcement of the finalists for the James Beard Foundation Awards from Chicago. In the chef, restauranteur, and bar program categories, Colorado had a total of seven semi-finalist nominees: Jorel Pierce of Euclid Hall (Rising Star); Yasmin Lozada-Hissom of Spuntino (Outstanding Pastry Chef), Frank Bonanno of Bonanno Concepts (Outstanding Restaurateur); Jeff Osaka of Twelve and Alex Seidel of Fruition (Best Chef Southwest); Williams & Graham (Outstanding Bar Program); and The Little Nell, Aspen (Outstanding Wine Program).
The wine program at the Little Nell in Aspen is the only Colorado semi-finalist of those seven to move on to the next round as a finalist.
Among the finalists for journalism, Denver's Adrian Miller, executive director of the Colorado Council of Churches, was recognized for his book Soul Food: The Surprising Story of an American Cuisine, One Plate at a Time in the Reference and Scholarship category. The James Beard Awards are the highest honor for food and beverage professionals in America. The Book, Broadcast and Journalism Award winners will be announced Friday, May 2. The winners in the chefs and restaurant categories will be announced on Monday, May 5 at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall in New York City.
