Years of hard work in the wine and hospitality industry paid off for two Colorado-residents who just passed the Advanced Sommelier exam Daniel Bjugstad of Pizzeria Locale Boulder and Michele Fano of Ruth Chris Steakhouse Denver were two of only 23 candidates being added to the Court of Master Sommeliers, America's list of individuals who have passed the Advanced Sommelier Exam.
The exam was held at the Hotel Monaco in Portland, OR from April 21-23. Fifty candidates from 15 states and four countries sat for the exam, which is the third in a series of four increasingly challenging tests of knowledge and skill offered by the Court. At this level, candidates with a superior understanding of wine theory and beverage service, as well as a highly sophisticated tasting ability, are distinguished from the thousands of wine service professionals who attempt the Court's exams on a yearly basis.
