He was a wise man who invented beer, a quote says on the bar at the Thirsty Lion Gastropub & Grill. The Portland-based gastropub-meet-tavern opened its doors today at lunch at 1605 Wynkoop Street in the One Union Station building. A major highlight: 52 beers on tap, with 28 of them from Colorado.
In a massive 8,393 square feet space, plus 2,000 square feet of prime downtown patio space, the Thirsty Lion serves an eclectic variety of multi-cultural cuisines with an emphasis on local ingredients, strong flavors and from-scratch recipes.
A seasonal fresh sheet will focus on the changing season's offerings, featuring unique ingredients including seafood, quality meats and local vegetables and fruits. Aside from beer, the gastropub also features craft cocktails made with fresh fruit purees, juices and premium liquors, as well as 25 different wines by the glass.
Thirsty Lion serves lunch happy hour and dinner. The Protein Bar and Zoe Ma Ma will open in the same building later this spring.
