Black Eye Coffee, located at 3408 Navajo Street, has become a neighborhood staple and community gathering spot in the Highland. In just about nine months, the coffee house will welcome a sister location in Capitol Hill.
This future outpost, set at 8th and Sherman, will anchor a brand new development. "What we hope to do there is provide our neighbors with good coffee, baked goods, and more food," said Steven Waters, parter and owner at this second location. "The space is almost twice the size of the Highland one so we will have an opportunity to do some things we couldn't do at the original location," he added.
With a full kitchen in this new space, the team at Black Eye plans to expand its repertoire. There will be pastries and cold-pressed juices and grab-and-go items, but there will also be a full dinner menu offered in the evening. "We have yet to nail down the food we will be serving, but we are really excited to create a new neighborhood spot in this area" Waters explained.
Several months ago, Black Eye Coffee began roasting its own beans in a roaster in the back of its space. There are now two single origin varieties and an espresso being roasted on site. Going forward with the expansion, Black Eye will attempt to roast the majority of the beans transformed into coffee drinks in its space.
