Carlin Karr of Frasca Food and Wine Named Among the 50 Eater Young Guns

After months of reviewing thousands of nominations, interviewing chefs, grilling local Eater editors, and examining supporting material, the shortlist for the 2014 class of Eater Young Guns was released today. There are 50 nominations on the list, the most promising up-and-coming talent in the restaurant industry from across the country, ranging from chefs or line cooks, wine and cocktail pros, restaurateurs, or maître d's.

Colorado's one and only among the 50 is Carlin Karr, a 28 year old sommelier at Frasca Food and Wine in Boulder. Frasca's wine program, led by master sommelier and co-owner Bobby Stuckey, was awarded the highest national honor last year, the James Beard Award for Outstanding Wine Service.

An Arizona native, Karr graduated from University of Colorado in Boulder in 2008. She moved to San Francisco to pursue a career in culinary arts and after her first wine class, she felt like she found her calling and immersed herself into the San Francisco wine scene. She met Matt McNamara and Teague Moriarity who were getting ready to open a restaurant. They hired Carlin as their General Manager and Wine Director and opened Sons & Daughters in the spring of 2010, quickly earning a Michelin star the following year.

In 2011, Carlin Karr was recognized by Forbes Magazine representing the Food and Beverage Industry's "30 Under 30" as one of the brightest upcoming stars under the age of 30. A year ago, Karr joined the Frasca wine team. Last month, on her first attempt, she passed the Advanced Exam given by the Court of Master Sommeliers, a difficult three part test which incorporates wine tasting, theory and service.

In late June, our Young Guns Class of 2014 will be unveiled.
