Today, Acorn was named among the 50 nominees for the Best New Restaurants in America 2014 by Bon Appetit Magazine. The magazine's restaurant and drinks editor, Andrew Knowlton, compiled the list of nominees after thousands of miles traveled around the country and tens of restaurants visited. The goal of the list is to provide a snapshot of where the food scene is now and where it's headed. The 50 nominees range from "oyster bars and diner revivals to a Mekong-Mississippi mashup and a Texas-style brasserie."
Owned by bartender Bryan Dayton and chef Steve Redzikowski, Acorn opened its doors last fall. The sister restaurant to Boulder's Oak at Fourteenth was named among 5280 Magazine's Best New Restaurants in March and received rave reviews from both the monthly magazine and the Denver Post.
Last year, the Squeaky Bean and Old Major were nominees on the same list. In 2012, Colorado was represented with three restaurants on Bon Appetit's Top 50 ListPinche Taqueria, Linger, and Pizzeria Locale.
In the last two years, Denver's nominees did not make it in the coveted Top 10. This year's Hot 10 will be announced on Tuesday, August 19.
