North County, A Taqueria, Will Open in Lowry

In late November or early December, North County, a fish taco-centric eatery, will open in Lowry at 94 North Rampart Way, across the street from the Lowry Beer Garden. The new attraction is a collaboration between the Larimer Associates and Sterling Robinson, the chef and owner of Billy's Inn.

The name references San Diego's north county where small taquerias in little beach towns cater to surfers and locals with fish tacos, peel 'n eat shrimp, Coronas, and margaritas. In a 2,600 square foot space with a large patio, North County aims to bring a little bit of that laid-back atmosphere and a lot of that kind of food to Denver.

"I really love the local bars in those small towns," says Joe Vostrejs of Larimer Associates. "They are very different than what taquerias are in Denver. We are bringing the kind of food you would find in one of those bars in North Beach County: ceviche, fish tacos, peel 'n eat shrimp, oysters, a lot of fresh seafood, but we'll also have a killer burger on the menu, some 100 tequilas on the back bar, and we'll be bottling some of our own alcoholic sodas," he continues.

Those alcoholic sodas will be a highlight of the new spot, fun and fresh carbonated drinks centered around beachy flavors, like the grapefruit tequila soda, a carbonated Paloma. There will also be beer, but a different selection than what the Lowry Beer Garden (another project owned by the Larimer Associates) offers. "At the beer garden, we strongly feature Colorado craft beer," Vostrejs explains. "What I want to do at North County is focus on great Mexican beer, but also some craft beer from San Diego, some of the best craft beer in the country. It won't be a huge draft beer selection, but we will have a carefully curated list."

Boss Architecture, the same design firm that just completed Stoic & Genuine, is working on the design at North County. "The project we have there is very industrial. I wanted to keep that, the industrial feel, but without having it be too harsh or too cold," Vostrejs shares.

When it opens, North County will be open seven days a week for lunch and dinner.
