Make way for another brewery that will join the scene in the upcoming weeks. Fiction Beer Company is gearing up for a soft opening next weekend at its location at 7101 E. Colfax Avenue, with a grand opening celebration planned for the following week on Saturday, September 27 at 2 p.m. Combining a passion for brews and literature, Fiction Beer Company crafts its beers with inspiration from favorite works of fiction.

Founders Ryan and Christa Kilpatrick, along with a team of investors, will launch Fiction Beer's library of liquid literature with categories like classics, mystery and adventure, and fantasy/sci-fi. Old Bums and Beat Cowboys is a pale ale in the classic catalog, inspired by Jack Kerouac's On the Road, while the summer brew Are Redheads Supernatural? falls under mystery and adventure—typically seasonal offerings.

During next weekend's soft opening on Saturday, September 20 and Sunday, September 21, the brewery will be open at 2 p.m. with a limited menu. The grand opening on September 27 will feature the full opening selection of six beers on tap, including four classics and two seasonal adventures. Two experimental fantasy/sci-fi creations will be added to the lineup in the future.

Housed on the first floor of the Phoenix on the Fax apartment building, one notable feature is a bar built from hundreds of stacked hardcover books, secured in place and driving the concept home.

Fiction Beer Company also plans to announce details soon for a membership program that will allow beer geeks to get involved in the recipe-creation process. Though geared toward homebrewers, it will be open to all.
