In a few weeks, Café Mercato will emerge as the first offering in the new Lowry Dining District, part of the Hangar 2 development. The eatery—owned and operated by Locanda del Borgo chef Giancarlo Macchiarella—is looking to open in early October, bringing modern, southern Italian fare with a lighter touch to the neighborhood.
An open kitchen equipped with a pizza oven, wood-fire grill, meat slicer, and gelato case will facilitate nightly dinner service, lunch on Fridays and Saturdays, and Sunday brunch. The menu features a range of dishes, from pizza to fettuccine with porcini mushrooms, and fish stew to Sicilian filet mignon, with all of the pasta, sausages, dessert, and gelato made in-house. Also look for happy hour and family-style specials.
The beverage list is centered around a rotating wine library, supplemented by a selection of beer and cocktails.
Café Mercato is located at 7561 East Academy Boulevard and will be open Monday through Thursday from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., Friday and Saturday from noon to 11 p.m., and 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Sunday.
