Look for a new neighborhood spot in Sunnyside this summer, with the arrival of BluePlains Tavern. Owner Neil Jorgensen recently closed on the building at 2400 West 44th Avenue, which formerly housed Carniceria El Rancho, among other establishments. After a lease in the nearby Cobbler's Corner development at 44th and Alcott fell through, he was able to secure this property.

Jorgensen, a Colorado native, has been in the food and beverage business since the age of 15, with front-of-house experience at Marlowe's, Govrn's Park Tavern, and Stoney's. With BluePlains Tavern, he aims to provide a welcoming atmosphere for the surrounding neighborhood. The menu will focus on fish and game, though a chef is yet to be named.

Temporary signs are up at the corner of 44th Avenue and Zuni Street, and now the construction work begins. The 4,800-square-foot space will undergo a transformation to create the bar, dining, and patio spaces, as well as a private dining room.
