Pizzeria Locale, in its 2.0 iteration as a partnership between restaurateurs Bobby Stuckey and Lachlan Mackinnon-Patterson and Chipotle Mexican Grill, will open a third location at 505 West 75th Street in Kansas City, Missouri. This third outpost of the casual Neapolitan-inspired pizzeria will occupy the space previously held by Pizza Manifesto in the city's Waldo Neighborhood.
In May 2013, the first of these pizzerias opened in Denver at 550 Broadway. A second one followed in October in the Highlands at 3484 W 32nd Avenue. The new collaborative venture was inspired by the original Pizzeria Locale, a full-service restaurant owned by Stuckey and Mackinnon-Patterson next door to their Boulder flagship Frasca Food and Wine.
The Kansas City outpost will be first location outside of Denver. "Kansas City has been a terrific market for Chipotle, and we are thrilled to join our sister restaurant and become a part of the city's dynamic and growing dining scene," shares Stuckey. "We have steady and measured plans for growing Pizzeria Locale, allowing us to perfect the concept and service model, and concentrate on developing the people and staff to lead the new locations."
As it does at the two Denver locations, the eatery will offer a menu that includes classic pizzas as well as custom creations that the guests can dream up. The pies are cooked in a high-tech custom-designed, high-temperature pizza oven, the same kind found at the Denver locations. More than pizza, there are hand-tossed salads and sides, including meatballs and freshly sliced prosciutto. Wine is available on tap, two kinds - a red and a white Italian custom-blend created by Stuckey. There are also beers from small, local breweries and non-alcoholic beverages.
With construction starting soon, Pizzeria Locale KC will open this summer. The Colorado-born restaurant is not the first to spread its wings to Kansas City. Last fall, Jax Fish House opened its first out-of-state location at 4814 Roanoke Parkway in the Polsinelli law firm building in Kansas City.
