Nearly a year to the day that it opened, the Bark Bar will have to bid adieu to its location at 4132 West 38th Avenue on the border of West Highland and Berkeley. Backlash from neighbors concerning noise, parking, poop, and other grievances led to zoning issues after the business had already been established.
Despite an initiative called "Bite Back! Save the Bark Bar!," in October the city ruled that owner Catherine Peters and her husband would have to shut down. So on Thursday, January 15, the Bark Bar will host a blowout bash on its last day for man and man's best friend. From 4 p.m. until the shelves are cleared, supporters can take advantage of 50 percent off beer, booze, and merchandise.
In the meantime, Peters hopes to reopen in a different location and is still accepting donations through a GoFundMe campaign, as she takes the issue to the city council and seeks to get the code changed.
