Bittersweet Still Rocks the Dessert Game

It's like we've died and gone to dessert heaven.

From start to bittersweet end, dinner is an art form at the restaurant owned by Olav Peterson and his wive Melissa Severson. At Bittersweet, many of the eye-catching dishes are crafted with ingredients from the adjoining garden, served in an elegant and intimate atmosphere. The small eatery has earned its spot on 5280's 25 Best Restaurants list for the last five consecutive years.

Diners would be terribly remiss, however, if attention to dessert was lacking. Pastry chef Natalia Spampinato incorporates past and present, without relying too heavily on current trends or old fashioned standards, to create desserts that are nothing short of inspired. Her pastry pedigree includes Frasca Food and Wine, Il Posto, TAG, Panzano.

Spampinato's desserts incorporate savory elements at times - they have been known to include ingredients like candied fennel, tomatoes and corn in the summertime, and buttermilk ice cream.

The current dessert menu at Bittersweet:

DOUGHNUTS

mascarpone mousse, coffee anglaise, chocolate sugar

DATE CAKE

blood orange toffee, orange chantilly

S'MORES

gianaduja mousse, marshmallow, graham cracker, berries

YELLOW BRICK ROAD

passion fruit curd, strawberry gel, graham crumble, honey meringue
