On Sunday, October 4, Gary Lee Bomar — owner of Gary Lee's Motor Club and Grub — passed away surrounded by family and friends. Bomar's sister, Tiffany, updated the gofundme page that was set up to help the bar owner with medical expenses with the sad news.
Gary Lee Bomar passed away this afternoon surrounded by his family and close friends. This is a finality that we never could have imagined. We have done our best to keep you all updated through this tragedy. We are now asking for PRIVACY to mourn the loss of our son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend. We will post arrangements when we have them made. Thank you for your kindness.
On Wednesday, while vacationing in Mexico, Bomar sustained a head injury that quickly had him in an ambulance. The bar owner was on the phone with his mother when the incident occurred and said to her "Hang on, there's an accident, I need to call you back." Those were the last words she heard from him. He underwent surgery in a hospital close to Cabo San Lucas and on Thursday, he was medevaced to Denver. His condition did not improve and by Friday evening, he was on life support.
Known as the King of South Broadway, Bomar was a veteran of the bar and music worlds in Denver. His three and a half year old bar and venue set in a former auto garage became a destination for those seeking a stiff drink, good music, an amazing patio, and soulful food. Gary Lee Motors Club & Grub remains open.
Bomar was well-loved in the bar and music communities. Hundreds of sad messages have been posted on the bar's Facebook page as well as Bomar's personal page. More messages expressing condolences along with donations that will help the family with expenses are pouring into Bomar's gofundme page.
The family will share information on services as arrangements are made.
