Word is quickly spreading about the gorgeous new Black Eye Coffee Cap Hill. We've been wowed by the coffee, we've been wowed by the cocktails - now on to the food. Well, that is, straight to the dessert, please.
Coffee & Donuts - cinnamon sugared doughnuts, Black Eye Coffee ice cream, whiskey caramel
Ricotta Cheesecake - vanilla whipped cream, bee pollen
Dark Chocolate & Stout - bourbon ice cream, salted caramel, bacon peanuts
Black Eye's dessert strategist and pastry whiz, Alicia Luther, formerly of LA's Akasha Restaurant, is making a pretty sweet splash on the menu. Being first and foremost a coffee shop, the coffee and breakfast pastry influence remains at large throughout the day and into the nighttime hours. One of the three desserts currently featured is the apt "coffee and donuts," with cinnamon sugar dusted doughnuts, Black Eye coffee ice cream, and whiskey caramel - a dessert that neatly encapsulates the essence of the hip coffee shop/ bar/ restaurant.
Because the coffee shop undergoes a transformation into a sultry, nocturnal bar at about 5 p.m. each day, the sweet and savory pastries on display magically disappear. This sort of arrangement puts the pastry chef up to the test - demanding fresh pastries throughout the day for breakfast and lunch service and desserts that complement the theme of the space at night. Luther appears to be responding to this challenge sweetly, and we cannot wait to see what she has in store as the new neighborhood spot continues to develop.
