Marco's Coal-Fired Pizza, the popular pizzeria that got its start in the Ballpark hood and has a location in Englewood, is making a big change: A new brand name and logo were unveiled today. The pizzeria will henceforth go by the name of Racca's Pizzeria Napoletana, and will continue its focus on authentic Neapolitan pizza. Owners Mark and Kristy Dym, who opened the pizzeria in 2008, made the change-over between last night and this morning.
In addition to the name-change, the team announced plans to double its footprint, with two additional locations in early 2016, including one at the Colorado Mills shopping center, and the first-ever out-of-state expansion into the Old Yellowstone District in Casper, Wyoming.
The eatery is the only VPN certified (Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana) restaurant in the state, a special designation to pizzerias that meet strict requirements that respect the tradition and art of Italian pizza-making, including the verification of ingredients, processes and wood-fired oven techniques. In August, the pie shop received the title of the "2015 Independent Pizzeria of the Year," by Pizza Today magazine.
