Blackbird, the new addition to the Wash Park neighborhood received two out of five stars from the Denver Post. Although the waitstaff is knowledgeable and friendly, critic William Porter had some hit-or-miss dishes. A hit: the Brussels sprouts topped with a blood-orange vinaigrette. A miss: the broccoli, potato and black bean soup, too similar to baby food for Porter. The BLT with shoestring fries is not to be passed up, and as far as the drinks go, Blackbird knows how to do 'em.
The Post Brewing Company in Lafayette had Westword raving about its fried chicken. The crunch, skin, and crispiness are perfectly bound into one delicious bite. The secret: a two-day process with all the right ingredients. From the pork-roast sandwich to mac and cheese and dessert, critic Gretchen Kurtz had all good things to say about the brewery and eatery The wait is the only crummy thing about the Post, but it's well worth it. Snag a beer or a sweet treat while you're waiting for a table: "You might spoil your appetite, but at least you won't cuss, wrassle or otherwise break the rules and risk losing out on the chicken."
