Sushi Sasa, the popular LoHi restaurant owned by chef Wayne Conwell, landed in hot waters with the Health Department twice last year. On Friday, in its weekly Restaurant Report Card, Fox 31/KDVR reported that Sasa got an F on its report card with 11 critical violations during its two most recent regular inspections in December and June 2014.
Among others, the inspector noted that she saw the "sushi chef handle raw fish then wipe gloved hands on soiled towel multiple times then proceed to handle ready to eat foods such as sushi, rice and garnish." Also, rice and cooked seaweed were held at unsafe temperatures and there was no sanitizer used to wipe down food contact services. The restaurant, located at 2401 15th Street, passed a follow up inspection that took place later in December.
Also with 11 critical violations for the last two inspections, the Restaurant Report Card mentions The Egg and I in Greeley. At the other end of the spectrum, with a flawless A and no health code violations in back-to-back inspections, Morningside Cafe, a cafe and diner located at 2236 S. Colorado Boulevard. The previous week, the Restaurant Report Card gave Fs to Edgewater's US Thai and Arvada's Villa Napoli and a shiny A to Govnr's Park Tavern.
