Spinelli's Market has long made its mark on Denver's epicurean scene as a go-to for Italian specialties and gourmet foods in Park Hill, which in turn spawned a commercial line of pasta sauces and salad dressings. Now, Spinelli's has its sights set on opening a bakery just across the street from its home on East 23rd Avenue.
Taking over where Adagio Bakery & Cafe quietly shuttered late last year at 4628 East 23rd Avenue, the new establishment will complement the existing market and have a cafe vibe. Look for offerings like breakfast sandwiches, gourmet coffee, ice cream, and—of course—baked goods.
Once a round of renovations is complete, the bakery will soon be up and running under the leadership of brothers John and Ted Moutzouris, who bought the original market and intellectual property from founders Jerry and Mary Ellen Spinelli last spring. The Spinellis still own and operate the sauce company in partnership with chef Chris Rogers.
