Denver in the Spotlight: Two Bars and Two Chefs Shine Nationally

Punch Bowl Social and Linger is buzzing in the bar world and Boulder's Eric Skokan receives a prestigious cookbook award nomination.

Kelly Whitaker of Basta and Cart Driver was featured in the Los Angeles Times with an OpEd piece on sustainable fish. The chef talked about overfishing and how save the rockfish and other West Coast groundfish. After a horrible fishing disaster in 2000, Whitaker gave readers, fish eaters and chefs some piece of mind in knowing the fish is now being protected. What now? West Coast Groundfish are undervalued and fisherman are hoping chefs and consumers will help by helping grow the market. Whitaker wants diners to broaden their horizons and not just think tuna, salmon and shrimp - to save a West Coast fishery.

Punch Bowl Social was recognized on BuzzFeed's list of "19 Bars In America You Should Drink At Before You Die", alongside the Tunnel Bar in Massachusetts and Minus5 Ice Bar in Vegas. Punch Bowl offers guests the opportunity to bowl, play arcade games, eat and drink all in one large space.

Boulder restaurateur and farmer Eric Skokan is one of four 2015 IACP award finalists in the "American" category for his book Farm, Fork, Food: A Year of Spectacular Recipes Inspired by Black Cat Farm. Winners will be announced at IACP's 37th annual conference in Washington D.C. on March 29.

Nightclub & Bar magazine awarded Linger as "Restaurant Bar of the Year" in the 2015 annual awards. Various bars, nightclubs and lounges are awarded for their excellence in developments, service, promotions and innovation. Linger was amongst hundreds of national nominations, beating out Bottlefork in Chicago for the win.
