Taco Junky Hits a Home Run on the Hill in Boulder

It isn't easy to find the sweet spot for hungry students used to junk food and cheap eateries.

Taco Junky & Tequila Bar opened its doors on the Hill in Boulder at 1149 13th Street in a space that housed Mamancita's for nearly two decades. A more modern Mexican eatery than its predecessor, the new spot raises the bar for students used to cheap slices of pizza and fast burritos. But the trick on the Hill is not to simply elevate expectations for the still-young diners but to do in a measured way that remains accessible.

At the eatery owned by Toula Georgakopoulous, the spin is fresh. There are signature infused tequilas, fun tacos — think shrimp with mango lime aioli or Caribbean curry chicken with coconut guacamole — but also outrageously garnished Bloody Marys and great French toast for brunch on weekends. This week, Taco Junky gets hot with its own March Madness Tournament. There will be prizes for round winners, overall winners, best name, and more.

Taco Junky is open 11 a.m. to midnight daily.
