At the High West Oyster Fest hosted last week in Boulder, Jax Fish House and Oyster Bar raised $592,139 for Colorado non-profit There with Care. The fantastic success of the fundraiser came partially thanks to a generous and anonymous Boulder donor, who offered to match up to $250,000 dollars raised. Local sponsors Burgermeister and Tebo, as well as the generous community of donors and volunteers are also credited with the blockbuster result.
There With Care, a ten year old Boulder-based non-profit, provides support to families of children being treated at 12 hospitals and medical facilities across the state for critical illnesses. The organization, which will receive 100% of the funds raised at the High West Oyster Fest, will use the generous donation to continue to work on easing the burdens facing these families during crucial and painful times.
More than raising money for a great cause, guests at the event enjoyed Jax food and drink favorites like spicy tuna poke, chicken and crawfish gumbo and of course, oysters on the half shell. The celebration of the world's favorite mollusk included live music from Denver DJ Styles Davis, oyster shucking and eating competitions and a special guest appearance from Louis Psihoyos, founder of Oceanic Preservation Society and Oscar-winning director of The Cove.
