Nobuyuki Matsuhisa, the Japanese chef behind two of the most highly regarded sushi restaurants in the world, Nobu and Matsuhisa, will open Matsuhisa Cherry Creek later this year. Set in a space at Steele Creek, the upcoming restaurant anchors a new luxury apartment and retail project that will get its first residents next month.
The 7,800 square foot space that will become Matshuhisa is set at the corner of 1st Avenue and Steele Street. Denver and Aspen based Rowland + Broughton is in the process of designing the interior; Haselden Construction, the general contractor for Steele Creek, will execute the buildout.
The developer of Steel Creek, Matt Joblon of BMC Investments, is responsible for attracting Matsuhisa to the project. "I go to Aspen and Vail a good amount and it has always been by far my favorite restaurant in both places," said Joblon. "Everything we did at Steel Creek had the goal of offering our residents the highest quality available. Because of Matsuhisa's Colorado connection, the restaurants in Vail and Aspen, there seemed to be a natural connection to Cherry Creek," he added.
Matsuhisa will be open for lunch and dinner but those living in one of the 218 swanky apartments will be able to order food and drinks for their residences, as well as have the restaurant cater their events. The restaurant also plans to service the year-round heated roof deck pool at Steele Creek, which sits atop the 12-story building.
The goal is to have Matsuhisa Cherry Creek open in November.
