Lou's Italian, an Italian deli and market, will open its doors next year at 34th and Downing. Set in the shuttered Mexican restaurant Las Brasas, the new venture is the brainchild of Josh Pollack, owner of Rosenberg's Bagels and Delicatessen.

Pollack, it appears, likes two things: Traditionally challenging neighborhoods and naming his eateries after family members. Rosenberg's opened in Five Points a year ago, bearing the family name of Pollack's late mother. Lou is the name of his grandfather and the location, 3350 Downing Street, is not quite in RiNo, not quite in Five Points, and not quite in Curtis Park.

Construction has not started yet, but Pollack hopes to be up and running with the Italian spot by spring 2016, after he launches Rosenberg's second outpost at the Stanley.
