The Nickel Earns the Judge's Choice Award at the Denver Burger Battle

The People's Choice went to TAG Burger Bar for its Truffle Shuffle entry.

Last night's sixth annual edition of the sold-out Denver Burger Battle gathered some 1,200 hungry burger fanatics at Sculpture Park in Downtown Denver. The popular burger competition also brought together thirteen local kitchen teams eager to earn the judges' choice and the popular vote.

The judges, which included Matt Vawter of Mercantile Dining & Provisions, Tom Ryan of Smashburger, and Pete Marczyck of Marczyck's, chose the Nickel as the best burger entered in the competition.

The popular vote went to Tag Burger Bar for the Truffle Shuffle, a new addition to the menu of the Congress Park casual eatery.

Competitors in the year's contest also included El Toro the Tot, Acorn, Highland Tap & Burger, Parkburger, the Squeaky Bean, D Bar, Chop Shop, Euclid Hall, Kobe An Shabu Shabu, Ophelia's, and Crave Real Burgers.

There was live music, lawn games, plenty of beer, wine, and cocktails, and a VIP lounge that made everyone outside the fenced-in area jealous.

If those who attended didn't get enough last night, their badge from the event can get them even more. Through the month of August, eight of the participating restaurants (listed here) are offering 50% off their burgers to those who can show they attended the Denver Burger Battle.
