Look Inside the Occidental: Cool Decor, Well-Edited Menu

It appears that you can be both very hip and very approachable at the same time.

The Occidental, bartender Sean Kenyon's response to a neighborhood bar, opened to the public last night. Sister bar to neighbor speakeasy Williams & Graham, the Ox is set in an airy and beautifully grungy space styled by Bijou Angeli, Kenyon's wife. Highlights include a wall geometrically tiled in cool magazine clippings and a large cassette wall, over 1200 of them, that were spray painted in silver.

The booze menu, mostly centered around $9 cocktails, features a little something for every spirits lover. And there is plenty for the beer lovers too. Food from State Fare, a truck stationed permanently behind the Occidental, is available without leaving your seat: Just order with your server and your fair-inspired fare will make its way back to you.
