Rebel, the new eatery set in a former dive bar in RiNo, got high marks in this week's Denver Post review. Restaurant critic awarded the spot owned by chefs Bo Porytko and Dan Lasiy three star of four. A few things stood out: The alternate reality space in the unlikely Wynkoop Street location, the friendly service, and the really fun food. While Porter was not a fan of mixing his own potato salad for the price of $8, he seemed to enjoy every single other dish. The biscuit made with Tasso ham and smothered with Hatch chile pimento cheese was called sublime and the chicken fried pork came highly recommended.
Downtown's Baur's Restaurant and Listening Lounge did not blow critic Gretchen Kurtz away. The Westword review pointed out that the spot should decide whether it is a music venue or a fine dining eatery. The disconnect between high prices and loud music, concert hall vibe and a fussy many, left Kurtz suggesting some changes. One thing she really enjoyed was the seasonal dishes, an area in which the kitchen at Baur's excelled.
