Two and a half years after its opening in Capitol Hill, Moontower Tacos called it quits and closed its doors last night as quietly as it could. There are no signs of the closure on social media, the website, or the eatery's phone message. A reliable anonymous tipster reached out to Eater and shared the sad news. The shortage in cooking staff was cited as one of the main reasons leading to the shutter.
Owned by Austin transplant Brent Thrash, Moontower brought Tex-Mex tacos to the Mile High City both in the brick and mortar location and also in a food truck. The spot was mostly known and loved for its killer migas, breakfast tacos that combine crispy chips with scrambled eggs. Thrash put the food truck up for sale months ago and now closed the physical location as well.
